How to Spruce Up Your Home For The New Year

As you’re settling into the new year you may be inspired to try something new, or you may need a fresh environment to get your New Year’s resolutions accomplished. Here are some simple ways to spruce up your home for the new year, 2021!

1.     An Accent Wall

An easy way to spruce up any room in your home is to add an accent wall. Instead of painting the entire room, adding an accent wall can add a pop of a different color or pattern rather than just repainting the entire room one solid color. An accent wall can be painted a color that compliments the color that the other walls are already, or you can choose to put wallpaper on the accent wall. If you use wallpaper, there is an endless amount of varying patterns, and colors you can choose from. Printed or multicolored wallpaper can add dimension, texture, and uniqueness to your space. It’s also a great way to liven up a room that has simple finishes and furniture.

2.     New Window Treatments

Replacing window treatments in your home can give the space a whole new look. Adding more light-colored thin curtains can give the room a more relaxed airy feel. Also, you could go bold with some neutral canvas-like material curtains to pull together a room that has a mix of colors. Window treatments can add more texture to a room as well, depending on the material of the curtains.

3.   Refurbish a Piece of Furniture

Another way to spruce up your home is by integrating some of the new 2020 home design trends, such as revamping a piece of furniture you already have. You can do this by staining a set of tables and chairs a different color, or sand and repaint an old chest or desk chair. Though it may seem small and simple, giving new life to an old piece of furniture that serves a purpose in your space can give the room a whole new look without breaking the bank by buying new furniture.

4.     Cut Down on Accessories

With a New Year comes a new start, and typically, the desire to rid ourselves of useless junk. When rethinking the number of decorative accessories you have in your home, think about which ones make the room come to life, which are sentimental, and which ones you really love. Anything else that are just space fillers, can go! You’ll find that the fewer tchotchkes you have in a room, in turn, will make it look more refined and not so crowded and cluttered. You will also come to see that as time goes on, you’ll end up collecting pieces you really love and fits flawlessly in your space. It’s common that when we first decorate (or redecorate) a new room, we sometimes feel the need to fill it with things so it doesn’t look empty, then we collect things on the way as well, and this tends to make the space look messy. If you minimize the number of decorative accessories in your home it will likely look better and you will be able to purchase items you truly love and add to your space rather than just fill it with things.
